SNOW

This weekend we got tons of snow - matter of fact it beat the record of most snow in a day! It was like 8-9 inches! We had lots of fun - well ROB had lots of fun. Of course we got a quick picture of Beckham in the snow, but the two of us stayed inside to keep warm (especially because he has just gotten better from being sick!) But Rob spent two full days outside in the snow. He and our cute little niece Brighton built 3 snowmen to resemble Robbie, Brighton, and Beckham. Rob did most of the work while Brighton ate all the snow!!! The next day Willie (Brighton's dad), Rob, and Nick (Rob's 12 year old brother) built a snow fort... The rest of the day was spent protecting the fort from a gang of neighborhood kids who kept trying to knock it over.

I am not gonna lie - I hate cold weather and I hate the snow - but they sure had a fun time. Now, just as I suspected, it is disgusting outside and will be for days until all of it melts and goes away...

We ended our weekend with a fun Valentines Day - Beckhams first! He got a squishy green ball from mom and dad for V-day ... he loves it! I cooked a dinner for Rob and now we are watching the AllStar game... It was a great day!

Thankful

The past few weekends, Rob has been out of town. He has been doing some youth events for churches and this weekend he is in Chicago to be trained for a mission trip this summer to Dominican Republic. While he has been gone I have realized how much I really do enjoy his company. I have noticed a few things that I seem to take for granted...

1. Help with Beckham
Having another set of hands is a big deal! Beckham is only 5 months old so he doesn't sit up yet. So he really only plays by himself for very short amounts of time. All the other time he has to be held, rocked, or you have to be making funny noises or singing loudly in his face. I certainly love playing with and holding Beckham but having Rob around makes it much more fun and less tiring. Plus when we are both here we harmonize while singing loudly to Beckham - much more entertaining for Beckham.

2. Conversation/Company
Beckham is on a schedule where he takes 2-3 naps a day
and goes to sleep around 7:30 or 8. Once he is asleep, obviously we are stuck at home... When Rob is gone, I usually watch lots of TV - mainly Law & Order (matter of fact, that is what I am doing right now and I had to change the channel because I had already seen the episode! - pretty sad.) Anyways it is way more fun when Rob is home, because although we are stuck at home at 8pm every night, at least we can spend time together watching tv, visiting, playing cards, etc.

3. Humor
Rob is the funniest person I know - he makes me laugh more than anyone. I am pretty funny myself but not funny enough to entertain myself while he is gone.

4. Strength/Driving
One thing I really enjoy about being married is letting Rob drive. For some reason I don't enjoy the process of getting from one place to another. It is nice to have someone to warm up the car, lug the babyseat in and out of the car, drop us curbside, etc. When I am by myself it seems like lots of trouble to pack up and travel somewhere - even if its just to my parents a few miles away - so we usually just stay in the house simply to avoid the hassle.

To sum this up, I love my husband and can't wait for him to get home.

It's an ear infection

We went to the doctor yesterday and had to go into the 'sick door' - this was a first. He is five months old and this is his first time to be 'sick' - we found out he has an ear infection. We got an antibiotic late yesterday and they say within 2 days he should feel MUCH better.

Because of the pain in his ear and his cough, it is hard for him to sleep, so last night he slept in between Rob and I. Although neither of us got much sleep, it was such a sweet experience to be able to hold him and do our best to make him feel better throughout the night. As he laid between us we looked at one another and realized that from now on 'it's not about us' anymore - we have a little baby who is priority now and neither one of us would have it any other way! Feel better Beckham - we love you.

Sick 5 month old...

Beckham has not been feeling well. He woke up yesterday with bad congestion and a fever. It is the worst thing to have a sick baby and not be able to help him. I wish I could just teach him how to blow his nose! He would feel so much better and it could be so simple! So for the past two days he and I have just been at home watching TV and playing. He has moments when he is very playful but he is mostly still and quiet. I have been told to cherish every moment because time flies and he will be grown before I know it. So although it is sad to hear him coughing. I will cherish his stillness and just hold him close until he feels better. Below is a picture of him while I am typing - he is so cute :-)

Life as a Mom

I am enjoying motherhood. I get to stay at home and be with Beckham EVERY day. I am so very lucky. Beckham is almost 5 months old and I finally feel like I am getting the hang of my new job as a 'mommy'. We have gotten on a good schedule and love to spend our days loving one another. It is so awesome to see him growing and learning new things every single day...

Below are some milestones that you all might have missed since I haven't blogged in FOREVER!

Beckham was born on August 31 - 7 lbs 5 ounces - 21.5 inches!

Beckham had his first bath at home - Rob was very good! Beckham loved the water going over his head!!

Beckham was dedicated at our home church FBC Lewisville - that was our last Sunday there - Rob got a new job at Bent Tree Bible Fellowship doing Worship for the youth. He loves BTBF and we are very excited to become a part of that community!

Beckhams first Halloween he was a guitar! He was adorable!

Beckham got a new cousin! Lawson Noel Porter was born on December 21! Beckham is going to be out numbered with Lawson and Brighton being girls ... and in May the Irwins will have another girl! I am afraid Beckham will for sure be dressed as a girl and called 'becky'...

Christmas was very fun! Beckham was spoiled rotten with all kinds of toys and
clothes from Grammy, Pops, Mossy, Doc, and all the extended family -
he sure is a lucky boy!!

I am making it a point to add 'blogging' to my daily routine - so this should be updated often :-)

Waiting...

This week marks 39 weeks and I am basically sitting and waiting... which stinks. But my days are pretty nice - now that I am off of work, I am able to get errands done, rest, hang out with mom, etc. I have included a few pics of the last week or so... Dad had a birthday golf tournament, Brighton turned 2 and had a Barbie party!!! I have included a few pics below...

Hopefully soon I will be blogging about Beckham or Elle!!!

Charlie Wilson

I have never really been much of a dog person. I think that some are cute, but I am not a fan of dog hair, bad smelling houses, chewed up furniture, stained carpets, etc. Back in February of last year, we decided to go to the Grapevine Pet Expo just to think about getting some type of little dog. Neither of us really grew up with lots of animals or anything, I think we just thought that it was the next step. We had been in an apartment, moved to a house, didn't want a kid yet...so seemed to make sense to think about a dog.

We took Rob's little brother, Nick, with us to the Expo. It was so funny to see what those two boys liked! I went with a Yorkie in mind. I could not get Rob to move away from the poodle section and Nick kept on picking up Chiuaua's that weren't bigger than my hand! It was so funny! My main concern was to get a dog that did NOT shed. After a while none of us could talk the others into our dog of choice... That is when we came across a baby pen with two larger dogs in it - these weren't new puppies - they were the ones that had probably been to 3 or 4 expos and never got 'chosen'. There was a puggle and this big fluffy mop looking dog... He jumped up so we would pet him and his bangs fluffed up and down over his eyes - he couldn't even see us! But he sure wanted to go home with somebody!!! So Rob gave it a shot - he picked up the dog and held it like a baby and the puppy just laid there without wiggling or squirming around - he looked up at us with his tongue out and his bangs covering his eyes - Rob said, "Let's call him Charlie!" Immediately we all three knew this was the one! This was the fluffy dog that we would take home and would be in all of our family pics!

Now over a year later, we couldn't have picked a better dog! Charlie makes us both smile - he doesn't shed, doesn't chew up furniture, doesn't really bark... but he does LICK! He will do whatever it takes to get a kiss in, and I guess at the end of the day - its not something that either of us will ever complain about!
